Arsenate Bioremediation Actuator in S. Cerevisiae
Encodes transport and reduction of arsenate into arsenite. This actuator is based off of naturally occurring contiguous genes in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae which are involved in resistance to arsenic compounds. PHO84 is a phosphate transporter which co-transports arsenate with high efficiency across the cell membrane. In recent studies, overexpression of PHO84 increases arsenate internalization by 60% compared to a wild-type control strain. ACR 1 is required for transcription of genes involved in resistance to arsenic compounds. ACR 2 is the arsenate reductase, converting arsenate to arsenite, which is required for arsenate resistance. This actuator can be attached to galactose inducible/glucose repressible promoters.
